Ignorant American here...

Is it hard to find work in Kuwait?? There's a slight impression that the people of Kuwait - in general - are well off due oil money propping up the economy. But is this not true??

You have been posting pictures of poorer areas. Maybe this like America where you have slums and skid rows right next to affluent areas? Well, at least that's the way it is in Los Angeles...

Just trying to become a more informed international citizen. Thx! kQ

KheironQ - It depends on the job really and it depends on the education. I'm going to speak on behalf of kuwaitis rather than ex-pats because they're a different issue. We have a lot of family run businesses in Kuwait so most people work in that area. Education is very important in this country and since it's free, our society is fairly educated (but not necessarily smart). We don't have many poor kuwaitis, because the government gives grants and you also get free health insurance so you barely need to pay for anything. Not even TAX! Plus, many of us get our jobs through special "wastas" (connections - almost mafia style too)

So these poor areas aren't kuwaiti. They're mainly bidoun. This is a huge problem in this country and it's a very sensitive subject for most of us. I don't have a single view on the issue myself. If you don't know what "bidoun" is find out more here: http://www.minorityrights.org/4278/kuwait/bidoun.html

I hope this helped!

Teddy B! I beg to differ.

there are so many Kuwaiti's who are so poor that they don't even have what cubrs thier hunger. they don't ask for help and no one knows about them because of the stupid rules of society.

I personally know many women who are secretly helping dozens of families to survive till the end of the month.

i7na 3aysheen eb ne3ma. other don't have what we have.

all I wanted to say is that there are poor Kuwaitis who's pride cannot make them disclose thier situations.

may god help them and bless those who do help.
