Day 139

Teddy didn't get what the hype was about...

Before heading to Pecha Kucha tonight I decided to pass by an exhibition by Ali A. Cha'aban, called Some Call it Noise. I loved the location, only because I never thought we could rent that space, and I always love gatherings in under-constructed structures. I thought the work was a bit over rated, as I have an intermediate knowledge on the capabilities of photoshop. He was selling his pieces for an average of 300KD and I find digital art a tricky subject to price. I really believe that when you price art, you either price for the amount of time and effort you put into it, as well as/or the uniqueness of the concept. There was no consistent theme throughout the whole exhibition, and whenever I looked at a piece I felt like I had seen this somewhere before. However, I did find two of his pieces quite interesting as there was a significance to the kuwaiti culture. It was an Audrey Hepburn, holding a blackberry and wearing cartier love bracelets. Another one I liked was the McDonald's M covering a man with a traditional kuwaiti headgear on his head with a statement at the bottom saying: Define a chicken nugget? or something like that. I think my owner is a chicken nugget*

Note to Ali, I would have bought them both if they were reasonably priced.

* a kuwaiti girl or boy who speaks english and acts westernised (opposite of a typical kuwaiti)

The location seems to be perfect -to me- .. Like it ..
Otherwise, I didn't see his pieces to criticized it with you Teddy .. But I am pretty sure you have a point ..

To complete the "chicken nugget" definition:
They are wearing a bright color footwear which match their blackberry's cover ..
Teddy, are you still thinking that your owner is a chicken nugget ? ;)

BTW, How was the PKN ? I couldn't see you due to the darkness..
I was just behind the Health Minster if you noticed him ..

No I didn't see him it was pretty dark you're right. I was upfront somewhere. I never knew that chicken nuggets wore matching shoes with their bb covers? My owner doesn't have a bb cover and I doubt she'd wear matching shoes with it. So is she no longer a chicken nugget? What is my owner called in this society? I hear there's a term for the artsy fartsy community.

no chicken nugget is an open term, if you really think about it, our grand parents where chicken nuggets because if you are modernized not i3gaydi or what not, there are so many ways baisicly, ur a chicken nugget, so i guess since our elders where in the deep end of a rapidly modernizing society they can beconsidered chicken nuggets. tell that to the ones that name us.. they are just in denial, accept it were a chicken nugget society, or a kuwaiti society bored enough to cmoe with a pointless nick name or tag for what we think is a group of people. if they look funny just say they look funny to YOU.

btw got the idea at family lunch today after they made fun of me and my fellow blackberry holders :P

In my point of view, these kind of exhibitions needs to attract more mentality since his work is kind of weird but in the same time very unique.

Teddy B. | January 16, 2010 at 12:21 PM

Thanks Thek5 in that case be proud to be a CHICKEN NUGGET!

Anonymous: Infront of the fish market next to souq sharq just before the large roundabout at the Seif Palace there is a souq project which is under construction. They're concrete and brick imitations of the old kuwaiti souq. but they're new. which i think is ridiculous but whatever. There is one directly on the gulf street and you will see valet, and blue lights. This is where the exhibition is.

PS to all: the show has been extended if you want to go check it out and see for yourself.
