Day 118 Merry Christmas

Teddy gives his Santa hat to Rawan...

Meet Rawan

Rawan... Is a 6 year old, beautiful girl with a genuine smile. She has a blood disease, but if it were not for the large blood bag latched on to her tiny hand, you wouldn't be able to tell. In order for Rawan to be able to survive past the age of 25 she would need a bone marrow transplant. This transplant needs to be donated from a direct family member and since we do not have the facilities to accommodate this type of procedure they usually send the patients abroad. Only very few will have the chance to get help, travel and have the operation as it is extremely costly and the recovery time is a year.

Rawan doesn't have a passport, she doesn't have an identity. She can't leave the country, or get rights in this country. She won't be able to travel abroad even if she were funded. Rawan is stuck, but she seems oblivious to this fact and she made no emotional indication that she sensed her illness' severity. Rawan is bidoun, therefore she has no hope? She has no chance? Her family don't have human rights regardless of where they come from, or what their origins are? Regardless of the fact that her family has been living in this country for over 4 generations?

So many questions yet the answers fall into a grey area that I do not comprehend. This is humanity? Has it become so political that a little girl doesn't get a chance? What is humanity then?

This is a prayer to Rawan's mother....

Thank you Mary, Maryam and Rana (KACCH) for arranging this. NBK Children's Hospital.

Amen ..
I think giving the Kuwaiti nationality is something complicated & would rather not to talk about it.. BUT, Never to stop the only way of treatment for a human soul..
GOD bless Rawan, the little angel..

Ameen.
So nice of you to visit the hospital,(AMIRI 9a7?) I have gone before and handed out gifts to the kids but it was through an organization. Who do we have to contact before going if I want to go by myself?
Mashaala 3alaich, your an inspiration.

Anonymous1 - No this was actually the NBK Children's hospital. I was in the blood disease/blood illness section (not sure what the biological term for that is). I think you're allowed to just walk in, talk to the reception and ask their permission. Worst case KAACH has playrooms in some hospitals and I'm sure you can call them up and ask if it's ok to go to a specific one near you to volunteer.

Thank you Teddy for shining a light on these types of things, I do hope Rawan gets the help one way or another. The bidoun topic is so difficult for people to unravel it when they can easily just give them temporary solutions for cases such as these. A child's life can't hang in the balance because of red tape.. very sad..
