Day 86

Teddy meets Ahmed...

Teddy went to KACCH today and visited their playroom at the Paediatrics department in Al Amiri Hospital. He met the wonderful staff and kids who were all so sweet and high spirited. He was especially touched by Ahmed who was sitting on his bed, putting a jigsaw together. Today, Ahmed decided to put the pieces together in junks rather than his usual 'let's start off with the border' method. He seemed a bit tired and they explained that his sodium levels were low today (I think.. I'm not good with that stuff).

It was brought to Teddy's attention that they really needed mobile toys to hang over babies cribs. They need to add more colour and life to the rooms and they're finding it difficult to get the right ones as people will only donate what they want, which aren't easy to sanitise and don't have good durability.

It was also very apparent that there are very few Kuwaiti volunteers and specialists who can come and care for these kids. They told me that there's a one year post-graduate diploma in Child Life that is being offered at Kuwait University College of Graduate Studies.

PLEASE, if you love children, and have experience with them or have a degree in Psychology or Social Work check this link out. It is beautiful what they teach, and how they can help children prior and post major or minor operations to make it less traumatic for them. Contact KACCH if you are interested in this diploma or just volunteering in general. All they want is someone to play with, new faces, and attention.

I would like to thank Ms Margaret, Ms Mary, and Mariam for their hospitality. I was truly moved today and the KAACH bear is quite a character. I am with you all the way!
